Nidec Corp. has now completed acquisition of Leroy-Somer and Control Techniques — Emerson Electric’s motors, drives, and generator businesses. The acquisitions broaden Nidec’s motor offering and product lineup … including variable speed drives.
Nidec plans to accelerate Emerson Electric growth with synergies including complementary product fit with a full lineup of industrial products and geographic fit — and enhancement of customer proposals by combining the acquired business’s drives with existing Nidec products.
“Nidec has been developing a new growth platform with a focus in the appliance, commercial and industrial motor and generator market space with a strong variable frequency drives (VFD) and gearing product offerings,” said Nidec Motor Corporation CEO Kei Pang. “This transaction provides a significant expansion in our ability to support more end user applications with more products and technical expertise. There are deep synergies between Leroy-Somer, Control Techniques and other Nidec companies. Together, we will become one of the largest commercial & industrial motor, drive and generator companies in the world with approximately $4B annual sales. This acquisition will enhance our capabilities and provide a greater geographic presence to service our global customer base.”

Nidec acquired the recent Emerson Electric business for $1.2 billion to offer an wider array of industrial motors. Globally the deal brings 9,700 Emerson employees into the fold.
Remaining acquisitions — including Leroy Somer Electro-Technique (Fuzhou) Co., Ltd. — are scheduled for September 30, 2017 completion.
